Our trip starts taking BI 636 road until getting to the village of Güeñes. from there, take BI 3631 to get to the village of Galdames. Then, take BI 3634 and exit towards Larrea neighbourhood. After going up a steep climb, we find the Loizaga Tower. Inside we can see the only Rolls-Royce Collection in Europe including every model made between 1910 and 1998.
After the visit we will go back to Güeñes, from where we will take BI 636 to go to the village of Balmaseda. Once we have crossed the town, and after approximately one kilometre from the village exit, we find on the left hand, semi-hidden, the Fabrica Museo La Encartada. In order to make the turn, we have to continue for 300 metres more until we reach the roundabout, where we will be able to change direction.
At La Encartada is located a true gem of Biscay industrial heritage, an old factory of wool articles (berets, blankets, cloth, etc.). The factory, which has been transformed into a museum, is in a perfect state of conservation. Unknown to many, its machinery and the stories of the men and women that worked there will impress everyone.
In addition to that, La Encartada also has a restaurant where we can taste, among others, a delicious pot of beans or, during the summer, the best roast chicken. The wide park that surrounds the building and the games for the youngest kids will allow us to have a great time enjoying the quietness on the banks of Cadagua river.
Finally, we will have a walk in the old town of Balmaseda. There we will visit the Church of San Juan and the Museo de Historia de Balmaseda, which houses a collection of works of art, documents, books and objects that attest the past, and reflect the traditions and customs of this village.
