Our route starts with a visit to the Castillo de Muñatones, the only castle existing in Biscay and one of the most outstanding elements of Biscay s heritage. We will recall the War of the Bands and we will introduce the figure of Lope García Salazar.

We will then take the BI-2701 road towards Balmaseda to get to the magnificent Monumental Ensemble of Ferrería de El Pobal. There we will enjoy from the unique and perfectly-preserved facilities where iron has been made for 500 years. At km. 23.5 of this road, we will park our car in the museum s parking. The first thing that will strike us is the beauty of the natural environment that welcomes us by the river Barbadun. Then, the spectacle of some old hydraulic devices in operation will leave none of the visitors that will pass by this beautiful site charged of history indifferent. The foundry is the only one in Biscay that offers live demonstrations of the old craft of the blacksmiths, that worked the iron in order to make different materials.

To end with our trip, we will go back to the centre of Muskiz, from where we will take the N-632 road towards Bilbao and then the BI-2757 to get to the centre of Gallarta, where is located the Museo de la Minería del País Vasco. The museum studies and spreads Euskadi s mining culture and represents a unique reference for the whole country due to its extensive collection on mining and an essential visit for those who want to learn about the social and economical development of our territory.
