Arratia
Taking the AP-68 highway or the BI-2522 road, we will get to the town of Orozko, where we will find the Museo de Orozko, a space that reconstructs the past of the valley in order to pass on its traditions and enhance its peculiarities to contribute to the spreading, conservation and upkeep of the environmental heritage of Gorbeias natural park.
From Orozko, take the BI-3513 road and cross the heights of Bikotxgane to get to the town of Artea, in the heart of the valley of Arratia. Here is the Museo del Caserío Vasco. The building, a faithful reproduction of XVIIth-century Basque rural house built in stone and wood, houses an ethnographic museum where we can learn about the history of our ancestors through more than 1,000 pieces, all of them authentic and classified.
In the afternoon, following the valley by the N-240 road we will go to the nearby village of Areatza where is located Parketxea, the Interpretation Centre of Gorbeia Natural Park. The centre has three floors, each of them related with a height interval in our way to the cross. Low area: rivers and riverbanks, the force of water, villages, pastures... First floor: the forests and their dwellers, forestry and geological formations... Second floor: the rocks and their whimsical shapes, the caves and the fields that lead us to the cross.
